Google Launches Hindi Voice Search – A Much Awaited Initiative

India is world’s second largest English speaking country next only to the US. But still there is a major portion of Indian population who do not speak nor understand English. And finally now Google has planned to comfort the non English users by launching a leading-edge platform to make non-English users at ease in using internet and carrying out searches.

Google has announced the creation of the Indian Language Internet Alliance (ILIA), in alliance with leading Indian technology and content companies, to create relevant Indian-language content on the Internet.ILIA plans to turn 300 million Indian language speakers into active Internet users by 2017 and the alliance would work towards generation of Indian language content.

As per news resources the ILIA is composed of ABP News, Amar Ujala Publications Ltd, C-DAC, DB Digital, Firstouch, HinKhoj, Jagran Prakashan Limited, LinguaNext Technologies Pvt. Ltd, NDTV, Network 18, Oneindia.com, Patrika Group, Process Nine Technologies Pvt Ltd, Prost Innovation Pvt Ltd, Reverie Language Technologies Private Limited, Times Internet Limited, Ver Se Innovation/NewsHunt, Webdunia.com in addition to Google.

With the launch of Hindi voice search, Google plans to tap the 88% of Indians who are not online and are non English speakers to add upto to the numbers of new Internet users online in India.Along with Hindi voice search, Google also plans to make products which will support Indian languages. In addition to the launch of voice search, Google launched a website – www.hindiweb.com, for users who are Hindi speaking and give them consolidated news and latest information about the hindi language websites.

This initiative by Google is indeed going to be beneficial to non English population in India. The availabilty of Indian language content on web is going to empower non English internet users with various knowledge based resources which they have been deprived of all these years adding up to the online population in India.

So now you can search in Hindi and get them answered in Hindi. Jai Hind
