Rise of a New EyeBridge Cricket Champion – The Avengers

It was a sunny day morning, perfect weather for a game of cricket. Bravehearts and Avengers were the last two teams to battle it out for the championship trophy. Bravehearts lead by Jagrit and Avengers by Jaideep were pumped up to give a shot at the cup and charge their team to victory.

It all started with a coin toss and Jagrit winning the first mind battle to choose the side. Bravehearts looked confident and elected to bat first. Tarun and Gagandeep opened the innings and gave a smooth start to the batting side. Sandeep and Mayur opened the first spell from the bowling side. The openers looked positive till the first change came in bowling and Samir took the first wicket for the Avengers.

Captain Jagrit took charge, went first down and started hitting big shots which he is well known for, taking the game away from Avengers. Tarun and Anurag supported their captain and kept rotating strike. Again the change in bowling did the trick and Chandan took the wicket of Jagrit with a bouncer. Nikhil played a steady knock as a vice captain and with the help of Ashutosh took the score to 74. It was a decent bowling performance from The Avengers with Mayur taking 4 wickets and 3 catches, Samir and Chandan taking 2 wickets each, restricting Bravehearts to a low total.

Now was the time for Team Avengers to show their batting skills. Ravi and Mayur gave Avengers a perfect start with 9 runs per over, hitting 4’s and 6’s. Captain Jagrit kept on switching bowlers but none gave the required result. Anurag gave the breakthrough to the team, taking the first wicket of Ravi who was already getting out of control as the balls were getting out of the ground. Chadan came first down for the Avengers and was rotating strike regularly with Mayur to take the team score to 50/1. The score never was too big with a low 6 runs per over required at the end of first innings. Quick 3 wickets were taken by team Bravehearts when only 10 runs were required to win for Avengers. It did give a rush of blood to the bowling side as they looked focused but couldn’t change the inevitable. Samir put the last nail in the coffin by taking his team to victory in style and hitting a boundary.

Alas it was heart breaking for the Bravehearts as they could not put enough runs on board to stop The Avengers lifting the ECC Trophy. Mayur as vice-captain was Man of the match for scoring most runs and taking a handful of wickets.
